We can offer an array of different workshops and sessions to help with working towards being a top class performer. To be able to flourish as an actor/actress in the modern world it is important to be able to explore and develop a number of skills which can all feed into and support one another. Sessions will focus on supporting performers to develop skills, build confidence and have fun in an exciting and creative environment.
Throughout Drama sessions in the Academy, actors and theatre artists can expect to develop their preexisting skills and learn new ones. It is important for actors to have an understanding of a wide range of theatre styles, and have adaptability to perform across a range of these. Academy sessions will allow for skillbuilding that helps performers become well-rounded, through nurturing and accessible sessions. With links to York Theatre Royal, Friargate Theatre and multiple theatre companies across York, performers can expect to gain real-life experience from bespoke workshops and visits to venues across York.
It is important to not forget that Drama isn't exclusively what happens onstage, but also the team that surrounds the performance. Academy members will have the opportunity to develop as theatre artists, with knowledge in backstage processes, audition techniques and facilitation skills.

Technique building for both solo and group performance.

Plenty of rehearsal time of scripted and devised pieces, with the aim of performing these to paying, public audiences.

Developing knowledge of acting methods, the theory behind them and how to apply these to practical work.

Using your strengths to contribute creative ideas to a range of styles of performance, including: contemporary, Shakespeare, collaborative cross arts and improvisation.

Workshops that focus on areas of Drama other than acting, including: directing, stage design, scriptwriting and theatre facilitation.

Performance Opportunities
We are passionate about making sure our performers are given real life opportunities to perform and showcase their musical creations. Currently we are developing links within the York area to showcase these performances. Amongst are already exciting performance spaces such as The Crescent and Theatre 41, we are looking at putting on performances at some of York's greatest venues such as The Fulford Arms. Performers will have the chance to showcase their creative output regularly and we love making performances as big and as fun as they can possibly be!
